Metapad is a small, fast (and completely free) text editor for Windows 9x and Windows NT (2000) with similar features to Microsoft Notepad but with many extra (and rather useful) features. It was designed to completely replace Notepad since it includes (just about) all of Notepad's features and much, much more. Metapad is freeware and is freely distributable in its unmodified zip  file. The author, Alexander Davidson, says he cannot be held responsible for any problems encountered while using this software.

TrustMeher Comments :-  If you are looking for a better solution than Notepad for editing your HTML code, this little utility Metapad is here. It is just wonderful, with a number of features like find and replace, highlighting of URL's etc. If you know how to  do things, this is better solution than the advanced HTML editors.

NoteMagic v 5.0 was released on April 6, 2002. Sporting a new interface and losing over 500k of compiled code without losing any functionality, NoteMagic is now ready to reclaim it's place among the best text editors in the world.
Drag any file from File Manager, Explorer, WinZip, etc.and drop it into Notepads+ to edit it. Open any text file file, edit it, then send it to whomever you wish as an email by clicking on the Send As Email button. Text and .rtf (Rich Text Format) files can be imported into any open workspace and are placed in the open file at the cursor position. When .rtf files are imported they are converted to text files. Has a built-in English spell checker. Open text files larger than 32k. Large text files are trapped before they load into NotePads+ allowing you to specify which word processor to use to edit the large text file (larger than 32k). [Software Review: Chip [] April 2001]

Despite being only a fraction of the size of his heavy counterparts, TextShield supports all Word 2000 formatting features.
